New Name For Unionsafety's Mental Health Support Pages
Today Unionsafety.eu launches its new Mental Health Network pages following the close of the CWU NW Regional Committee structure. This new title more accurately reflects the work being done in the CWU on Mental Health by the Postal Constituency Exec, MHFAs, USRs, Area Safety Reps, and the membership.
Thanks to the work done by several emmbers of the now defunct North West Region of the CWU on mental health support in the workplace, and within communities, the Mental Health Network was set up by Mental Health First Aiders, particularly Area Safety Rep, Jamie McGovern, Mark D Holt, and Emma Gardner. See Network Organisers for further infomation.
Since 2022, this website has been reporting on the work of the Mental Health Network and providing news and resources on mental health support and signposting to organisartions dedicated to helping suicide prevention, and uniquely; on the Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) training which has resulted in over 200 CWU MHFAs within the Postal Constituency.
Unionsafety wishes to accurately reflect this work, and hence the name change of this dedicated section of the website:
Web editor, Chris Ingram said,
"There is no doubt that the work being done by CWU Postal MHFAs, both in their workplaces and communities; have saved lives, and not just of CWU members struggling with mental ill-health.
Union Safety Reps, too have been dealing with mental health issues and supporting union members especially when mental health struggles caused by work, result in sick leave and the lack of simple workplace adjustments; creates an excuse for disciplinary measures by management.
Changing the mind-set of employers and the culture in the workplace, is perhaps the one single issue that determines the health and safety of worker's both physically and mentally.
It is only right for this website to recognise the dedication amongst the Union's Postal Members becoming MHFAs and USRs, and those in the wider trade union movement."
